Skiing Exercises Knowledge Base
Does anyone know any exercises for skiing? I went on the school skiing trip last year and did loads of workouts for that but I read somewhere that actually a lot of "skiing exercises" don't actually do anything to help you when skiing. Does anyone know any exercises/stretches, etc. that will help prepare me for skiing again (not anything to do with exercise machines please (I don't have any))
What are some really good exercises/ sports to prepare your body for intense skiing? Lets say your in relatively good shape but you want to boost your exercises up a notch to prepare it for an intense ski trip. What type of cardiovascular/ weight exercises should you do to prepare your body and especially the muscles you use to turn you body and to make ski jumps, paying particular attention to the muscles you use to ski so that you don't feel pain after skiing from not using those muscles.
what kind of exercises to warm up for a skiing trip? I'm going on a two day skiing trip in a week. I haven't been skiing in years and do remember it was pretty physically demanding. I am in pretty good shape, work out probably 4-5 days a week, but is there anything I can specifically do to prepare for the trip? Certain muscles or exercises?
good leg exercises for skiing? with the up and coming ski season, i find that both my upper legs and calves are usually burning while i ski. does anyone know of any exercises that can improve my leg's endurance and strength?
Settle an argument about how much exercise you get skiing? How much exercise do you really get downhill skiing? We ski for about 3 hrs at a time. I don't think it's much (all that lift-riding), but my husband disagrees. My legs feel exercised, but I don't think I get much cardio benefit? Opinions?
How good of exercise is skiing? How many calories can you burn? What major muscle groups are you using? Is it low or high impact? (Maybe that depends on falling.) For an intermediate to advanced skiing.
exercises before snow skiing? Hi a few weeks or so there was a list of exercise on yahoo stating what exercises you should do before you hit the slopes. can some one tell me where I can find that information again on the yahoo page thanks
Going Skiing soon, How do I get fit for it? Hey, Im male, 16 years of age, and Going skiing soon. How do I get fit for Skiing? What exercises should I be doing? and How much time should I spend doing them everyday? I want to get into best shape for it. Im going in February so I have 3 Months. Ski exercises? I am a 15 year old male and i plan on joing my highschool ski team. I have been skiing for quite some time but never too seriously. I was wondering what exercises or routines i can do to get myself in shape and work skiing muscles before i have to try out for the ski team?
Is skiing good for the legs? I have always wanted skinnier legs especially thighs...is skiing a good exercise for the legs? we are goin for a whole week! also what are some good ways to stay warm while skiing in the bitter cold?
Can anyone give good skiing exercise tips? Unfortunately I've been ill for the last 8 weeks so my fitness and strength has taken a hit. On the plus side I have just been given the all clear to go skiing... in 2 weeks time. I understand that I won't be at the same fitness level as everyone else and will have to take it easy, but would like to do what I can to get the most from the trip. What types of exercises, and how much should I do over the next fortnight? I realise 2 weeks is not enough time to get really fit and strong, but doing something is surely better than doing nothing.
What are some fun and exciting exercises to do everyday? I'm trying to think of fun ways to get some activity into my day, but I've come to the point of writer's block and I need some help. I've already thought of the following things, so please don't re-list them: Dancing Archery Indoor Rock climbing Swimming Surfing Windsurfing Hiking unfamiliar trails Roller skating Ice skating Flying a kite Snowboarding Skiing Games: Laser tag Capture the Flag Hide and Seek Tag Dodgeball Paintball Active Treasure Hunt Obstacle course Jumping on the Trampoline And no, I don't consider things like biking, jogging, going to the gym, or doing repetitions of sit-ups and push-ups exciting. I'm not into exercise videos like Tae Bo, or traditional sports like basketball either, so please try to think of something else. First applicable answer gets the ten points.
Is tubing or water skiing considered a physical activity? This weekend for the 4th of July weekend, we're going up to our Uncle's cottage as a family get-away weekend, and he has a boat out there and we're supposed to go tubing and skiing if the weather holds up. I am on an exercise routine right now, and for the weekend, I just need to have a few physical activities going. I was wondering if these would count? I mean, it will definitely get my heart pumping, and it's really fun! I will probably not be sweating much though.
I want to get fit before I go skiing. What would you recommend? I am going skiing in 2 months (July- I am in the Southern Hemisphere). I'm specifically interested in how fit I 'need' to be, and how to reach this level of fitness- e.g. what kinds of exercises I should do, how often... I have a gym membership, and going to the gym is something I like to do- but I don't know what I should be doing with my gym time. I don't want to hurt myself on the slopes!
Dry Land training exercises for Skiers? Okay, so i am possibly joining the ski team at my highschool, and training starts mid november. I want to be as in shape as possible for this upcoming ski season, so im asking for exercises that are good for skiers. Dry land exercises, like running, Ski machine( big mountain machine), etc... Why do my legs shake skiing? When I am skiing, I can ski for about an hour and a half before my legs start to shake when braking. Its generally when i stop or turn to the left. My right side is my stronger side. I lift weights and hit the elliptical a few times a week and hike, snowshoe on the weekends. Any tips or specific exercises I can try?

How do I use my Nordic Track Skiing Machine?!? I just bought a Nordic Track Skiing Machine off ebay. I brought it home, set it up - and have no idea how to use it!! Where are good resorts for Skiing at 50? I live in OH and skied snowbelt, along with CO and UT. I'll be 50, have not skied in about 5 years and I want to avoid health problems. Any exercise suggestions? I also asked a similar question in Winter Sports.
How do I get fit for skiing? I'm going skiing in January for 2 weeks with my uncle who is a really good skier; I am capable, but nowhere near his level. I am looking for some exercises to do that will make my legs and core stronger so that I will not slow him down on the slopes. Do you have any suggestions? There are lots of little muscles in my legs, feet and ankles which I don't feel unless I'm skiing -- any exercises to build those up? My logic is that although he is technically better, if I am fitter and stronger than him I will be able to keep up and keep going and going, even when he gets tired so that I don't become a burden on his skiing holiday. So any help would be VERY much appreciated! By the way, I am very aerobically fit, so I'm not looking for exercises that will only build up my aerobic fitness (unless they also help my leg muscles)
Ski exercises? I am a 15 year old male and i plan on joing my highschool ski team. I have been skiing for quite some time but never too seriously. I was wondering what exercises or routines i can do to get myself in shape and work skiing muscles before i have to try out for the ski team?
how do I conquer my fear of snowboarding/ skiing? I have tried snowboarding breifly, on the bunny hill.. I was petrified, I thought I would have a heart attack going down the hill so fast. It also took forever to convince myself to go down in the first place. Now, I know it stands to reason that I shouldn't take up a sport I am terrified of, but it might be beneficial to my job if I could at least swing it (ski retreats and so forth) and at the very least I know it's good exercise.
What exercises can I do with a sprained ankle? I play soccer and I want to stay in shape while I'm out. It's in a really difficult area to do anything, I can't swim, can't run, can't ski...I'm pretty much out of ideas...Does anyone have any recommendations?
What should I wear to go skiing? I have no idea how to go about this. Temperature will be about 0 degrees Centigrade, so not too cold. Do you think one thermal + one shirt + one jumper + one waterproof ski jacket will be enough? Or how about one thermal + one shirt + one warm jacket + one waterproof ski jacket? Will I need 2 thermals? Do you get hot after exercising for a while?
What are some good glut exercises? I ride the bike (sitting low) on a high resistance level for 15-20 minutes, I do hip adductor muscles at 100lbs, I use the ski machine at level 5-6, and some of the machines that target legs and butt together.. (dont know the name but its like the quadricept machine but it works the muscles in the back of your legs) but Im not getting good results..?? Anything that really works? Maybe I just need more protein? Also I want to know is there a difference in what muscle in the legs/glut you are tonight when you ride the bike that sits low and the cycling bike that sits high? The exercises that I do work but I dont have the so called "buns of steele"
38 year old with bad knees from skiing? I love to hike. My boyfriend can hike up trails, but going downhill for very long makes his knees ache and swell. He thinks he damaged cartiallage from skiing moguls a lot when he was in his twenties. Is there any thing that can be done so he can hike with me? Exercises? Stretching? Would surgery make it possble for him to hike?
Cross country skiing....? I am contemplating getting into cross country skiing, primarily for exercise. I've never done it before. How much should a beginner set of skis (for 6' tall adult), boots and other gear cost? I plan to stick to the trails.
I'm going skiing soon...? Hey y'all. In a couple weeks my family and I are going skiing in Japan. This is probably the only time we'll be going to Japan, and so I'd like to get full enjoyment out of it. Therefore I'd like to get into shape before we go so I'm not exhausted after the first day. Do you have any suggestions for what I can do to get fit? Any exercises specifically for skiing?
Should I make changes skiing at 50? I have skied for many years within Ohio snowbelt and sometimes CO and UT. This year I will be 50 and I am wondering if I should make changes in style, exercise, locations because I do not want knee or hip problems. Now that I can afford it, I would love to hit Canada. Any suggestions? To clarify: I have skied for many years except for the past 5, when I did not do much.
How can I improve my ski fitness? I already work out, but I don't spend much time on exercises that would condition me for skiing, and I am feeling the pain today in my legs and lower back. What could I do to get into better ski shape?
