Skiing Workouts Knowledge Base

What are good workouts for Nordic skiing? I'm trying to prepare for my first Nordic season. I'm in good shape from cross country, so I'm mainly wondering about strength workouts, especially something in a weight room.
What are good workouts to keep in shape for skiing? I live in Texas, but every spring break, I love to go up and ski with my relatives in Colorado. Help?
Does anyone know a great pre nordic skiing season workout plan? I am in cross-country running right now so once it is over i will start training for nordic skiing, so the time between the 2 season I need some sort of workout plan. It would be greatly apprechiated! I am a sophomore and on the varsity ski team if that makes a difference. Thank you so much!
What is a good pre-season downhill skiing workout? I love to go carving down the local hills and Lutsen Mountain in northern Minnesota, but every time I go out, I get sore. This winter, I am going to be going out west to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and I don't want to have to stop every ten turns to rest. Mainly I feel it right above my knees. What is an entertaining and inexpensive way to get in-shape?
Is skiing an alternative workout for cardio or simply going to the gym? Im trying to loose weight and i go skiing twice a week now. I usually go to the gym 3-4 times a week but since the season started i haven't been going to the gym much. So is skiing just as good? i mean 6-7 hours a day must be some good workout. I do need a second opinion. Can i go to the gym twice and do skiing twice?
Skiing workout? My ski team starts to meet on Monday. I am wondering if there are any workouts I can do to get me in shape for skiing. Any advice would be wonderful on exercise and eating. Thanks
ski workouts? what workouts can i do for skiing? in season and off season.
Why is skiing (and possibly snowboarding) such a good workout? it's amazing how you're hooting along down the slopes at full speed, every muscle in your arms, legs and lower back is hurting like hell and yet you still find the energy to persevere through the whole day resulting in difficulty walking the next few days. I never realized i'd be pushing my body's muscular limits simply cruising downhill, and i loved every moment of it laughing hysterically whenever i succumbed to the effects of gravity.
how to get in shape for cross country skiing in 6 days? okay soooo yeah i procrastinated and i know i wont be super strong in six days but i'm gonna be on the cross country ski team this year. theres no snow right now where i live so i'm assuming during the first few practices we'll just be running and doing other core workouts and stufff and i was just wondering what i should do. i'm willing to work out all day for the next six days if i have to. just give me a few exercises to do. thankss
What workouts can I do at home? So, I'd like to lose some weight and I haven't workout for ages, so I thought I'd like to start with it again. It's winter now and it's really cold and snowy outside so I can't really workout outside, cause I don't like skiing and stuff like that. So what exercises can I do at home? What would be intensive too? I'm way too young to go to the gym I think. Oh, and it would be really good if it's inexpensive.
Skiing question workout? I'm on spring break skiing and I feel like i'm getting a good workout with cardio and such and also my legs. I usually workout with weights every day but since I'm skiing and it's pretty tiring should I not be doing weight lifting if I ski form 9 until 3:30? Also can u gain things like leg muscle or core or upper body muscle form skiing because like I said I'm sore or are there any other benifits to skiing like fat burn or something?
Will this get me ready for skiing? A friend in Zurich has persuaded me to go over this winter for a skiing weekend (he skis most weekends in the winter now). I think that I need to get into shape before hand but not sure what is the best approach. Do any of you experience skiers think that this will get me ready for some skiing? http://www.motleyhealth.com/articles/2008/10/skiing-training-workouts-to-improve-you-ski-fitness.html
Does anyone know any exercises for skiing? I went on the school skiing trip last year and did loads of workouts for that but I read somewhere that actually a lot of "skiing exercises" don't actually do anything to help you when skiing. Does anyone know any exercises/stretches, etc. that will help prepare me for skiing again (not anything to do with exercise machines please (I don't have any))
What are some good ski-racing workouts? So I'm a high school ski-racer, and after seeing the Olympics yet again I feel like that is what I want to accomplish in my life; to stand atop the podium at the olympics with a medal draped around my neck. Saying that isn't enough however, and I know that. What I really need to do are some ski-specific workouts. I'm looking for stuff that can be done with the following equipment: free-weights, ski machine, roller-blades (I know I don't have all the fancy machinery a gym might have but it's too expensive, and I hate going to the gym.). For roller-blades I've had the idea of setting up a mock race course with cones and skating through it. But I'm at a loss for exercises I can do with my free-weights. In addition, what would be a good diet? I.E one that is prime for muscle building, with minimal fat gain? If someone could help me, I would be much obliged. Thank you very much.
What do I need to know about cross country skiing? Obviously I know nothing about this sport & want to give it a try as I live near CCS trails. Can anyone learn? What are the costs for equip & approx cost to use designated trails? I'm thinking of buying used if that's possible - any advice? Does one need to buy special boots or can you wear whatever footwear you want? Is CCS more like getting a workout or is it mostly fun going up & down hills? TIA for any help!
I live in South Florida and want to train for cross-country skiing . What are some good exercise routines ? I already have a good weight lifting routine and spin 4 times a week. Looking to add sport specific workout to my routine.
Leg Workout for Skiing/Flexibility? I'm an ametuer skiier, and I would like to know what kind or leg excersises are there. I've done most of the machines that work your legs but eveytime I do Abductors or Adductors, I always end up pulling my groin the next day even though I can handle the weight(usually around 130Lbs) pretty easily. Being a skiier I need flexibile legs and I want to know, will doing the Abductor weight machine help me become more flexible and allow me to open my legs wider? If not, what ecxersies are there which will allow me to do that Also, if anyone has any tips on turning while skiing that would really help as I dont have much of a problem turning left, it's just turning right taht screws me over.
Does skiing burn calories? I skied for 6 hours yesterday on the hard slopes, and I don't feel like I got a workout at all. Do you still get a workout while skiing, even if you spend half the time on lifts?
Does skiing give you a workout? If so what areas of the body does it work out
I need an inexpensive ab workout that I can fit into my ski routine, any suggestions? The program is a combination of interval Nordictrack and cross-country classic and skate, mainly skate. I feel that I have to skate as hard as I can until I start to regress. My stomach area is hard but I could use more definition. I have been concentrating on form in my indoor workouts and balance in my ski routine. I have downplayed speed because I will never be a world cup skier but I am a good skier that only falls once or twice a season. Plus I can take a lot of punishment. I flex my stomach while I drive and while I sit at a computer.
general skiing help p p p p please.? can someone give me good workouts to get me stronger for my skiing adventure

How many miles would a human have to run, swim, cross country ski or how many minutes would it equal in rope skipping compared to a hamster's daily wheel running? Snow Shoeing vs Cross Country Skiing? I would like to try either snow shoeing or cross country skiing this winter mainly to add something new to my workout routine. Any suggestions as to why I should try one over the other?

Is downhill skiing a good excersize? Cause it kinda feels like it's good for your thighs, and an overall nice workout!! Is it??
Good Workouts? Good Workouts? I am not a very athletic person, but I do ski race (alpine of course!) and I need some ideas for getting in shape. I hate running and it is too hot to run anyways. Do the workouts that are in magazines like seventeen and cosmo girl really work? What do you guys think i should do to get in shape?
Does cardio work to get trim and lose weight? i am doing cardio work involving running ski machine rower and swimming, i do about an 1.5 hr workout all together 3 or 4 times a week. counting the calories i do makes up about 500 every time i go. if i then come home and have a can of coke to give me a energy boost, does that mean i've only lost 350 calories? or is it more than just calorie loss?

How should I start a new workout? I am 18, 5'10 145lbs. I've never excersized regularly on a plan, but I am generally active, biking, skiing, tennis, running around, hiking, etc. I'd like to gain some muscle and tone, and with a fitness easily accessible to me now, it seems like a good time to start. Ideally, I would like to work out on Tuesday and Thursday. What kind of excersizes would you suggest doing? Where should I start? I'm not trying to get huge, just in better shape overall.
How do you get out of a exercise rut? I have been intensely working out for the past 3+ months and have lost 25lbs thus far; dropped from a size 10 to a size 6. I am 10lbs away from my goal but it seems like my body has stopped responding to my dieting and workout routine. So much that I have increased the speed & time in my running, increased intensity in spinning, ski machine and elliptical, and nothing. I have been at the same weight for 3 weeks now. What can I do to pick up the results again?
Is it bad to workout when your sick and trying to get better quick? Im trying to get better cuz im going skiing on saturday but my friend wants me to work out. I dont see the harm in doing just arms like lifting weights but i could be wrong. what do u think? oh and would it be bad to run on the treadmill too?

How to get in shape in two months for a ski-alpine race (walking up in extreme pace/altitude, skiing down) Txs The race is in mid January. I am reasonably fit need but I need an upgrade. Problem is I can’t run/jog and I would need an everyday workout plan to maintain my fitness and improve it to a higher level. I know I won’t be in topnotch shape but I’d need to “survive” it. I used to run/bike, but I injured my Achilles 4 months ago and I haven’t done anything ever since. I do need to lose some weight; I'm 6' 0' and 165 pound, and I’d like to go back to my race 155. I used to do 50 km on my x-country skis or ran a half marathon under 1:25. Any thoughts? Thanks a bunch
How do you get a six pack? I'm 12. And a girl. 105lbs, it varies because I have alot of leg and arm muscle. I'm active, I play lacrosse, and cross country ski, and next fall I'm doing cross country running. Do you have to do the abdominal exercise to get a six pack? I've heard it doesn't do much but tire you out.. can't you just run and do the elliptical machines and stuff like that? And also what are some good workout plans and diet tips for this? Thanks
Do they still make ski machines? Where can I get one? About 13 years ago I had a "ski machine" type workout machine. All it had was 2 platforms for your feet and 2 extended handles to hold. Then with your legs you glided back & forth. And with you arms you did the same while holding the handles. IS this just an outdated machine or can I get it somewhere? Thanks! I have seen the nordic track version but that isn't what I want. I want the basic version. Thanks again.
I have been struggling with my weight loss after my third child this last June? I am 27 years old, SAHM, who is about 5'2" and 175 pds. Before my last child I was (on avererage 110), so I put on quite a bit of weight. I am by no means an overly active person, chasing an eight year old, three year old, and now an eight month old is basically the extent of my exercise. I want to improve on that, set a better example for my kids and take better care of myself. I got a ski machine on freecycle and have ordered Tae Bo (with insructional, basic 1 & 2, advanced 1 & 2, and an 8 min workout). If I do 30 min a day of each (ski & tae bo) is that a good start, should I be doing something else exercise wise (have already started eating better but will take advice there as well). Has any one had any experience with Tae Bo, what were your results? Is there some sort of on-line support group to keep each other motivated?

I eat someWhat decent i always have 1 bowl of raisen bran for breakfast . I'm been eating more salads instead of fries although i still catch myself eating fries atleast twice a week. My son wants to get the Wii fit game for Christmas. Not sure it is what he thinks, like it has skiing, footb? Football and other such fun games can someone that has the game tell me exactly is on it and would a 11 year old like it or should I get something else. He is Very active in B-ball and taekwondo already so really doesn't need to get fit already is, but thinks that the game has all these other cool games on it...What do ya'll think. He already has the Wii Sports, super sluggers, mario brawl, mario kart is it what he thinks it is going to be or just a workout thing. Let me know. Will it be worth the money or should I spend the moeny on something else already getting a couple other Wii games from Santas in the family THANKS
Could I injure myself if I worked out for 2-3 hours per day? I have nothing to do this summer so I have decided to just workout a lot. Could I injure myself?? Here are the main workouts i do: Jumping Jacks, Mountain Climbers, Ski Jumps, High Knees, Butt Kickers, Jumping Squats (body weight only), pushups, and sit ups
How to ease sore muscles? I WAY over did it at the lake with a jet ski and now my entire body hurts like no body's business. Not like after a gym workout or anything, it hurts to walk, I can't put on or take off my shirt without shrieking. Besides drinking plenty of water is there anything that will help with full body muscle pain?
Is it bad to workout every day? i recently for 5 days ive worked out every day at the gym. i due cardio like the ski's, everyday. and i walk home from school about 30 minutes a day. is it bad to work out everyday? why.
I need a workout plan at a gym .. im a beginner? =) Also any tips? =]? Hiyaah =] I'm 14, 5 foot 5, and 125 pounds .. Ive just joined the local gym and I'm a complete beginner at the gym =P Ill go to the gym like 3-4 times a week and i want to lose the wee 'pouch' of fat on my belly lol .. Ive got like 2 months till i go on a skiing holiday with the school and i want to look toned and have a flat belly =)) Can you please give me a good workout plan or any tips? Thank youuu =D xx
Am I starting off good in my exercise routine? I've been drinking nothing but water, and always drink 100 oz. a day. Currently, I've been doing situps, pushups(20), crunches(50), and well, jumping jacks (100). I increase the situp count by 10 everyday as well. Since we don't have a treadmill, I get on the family's ski tread and work at for 5 mins, though I'm going to try increase that daily too. I do all these twice a day(morning, evening), but my body seems to have adapted, so I'm going for an afternoon workout as well. As for meals, I eat three times a day, with just cereal for breakfast, fruit for lunch and dinner, and whatever else my mother fixes that's ok. Is all this adeqaute for a 6'0"+ 200 lb guy that wants to shed embarassing belly fat? I'm thinking of beginning to walk/jog as well, but I wanted input on this first. I'm really not concerned with the weight, just getting rid of that excess fat on the sides of my stomach. I know it's generic, but after a month of this will I see any change? Thanks much in advance.
Does cardio restrict your ability to get fit?? I keep hearing that doing only cardio will make you lose muscle mass...that doing something like 45 min to an hour a day is detrimental to your fitness. Now is that saying you will can't use only cardio to lose fat and lean your muscles out? Then what about many athletes that run marathons, swim, ski, etc that don't use weight training in their workout program? Are they actually hurting themselves by not using weights in their conditioning?

My hubby and I are going snow skiing in February and I need a great workout plan that will help get me in shape for three days in the Rockies. I'd like to get to know this guy better....? So here are the problems. He left the school I'm going to now, the same year that I entered-which was this past school year. I met him a couple times and thought he was adorable. A geek, tall, and funny, nice bod. I've been talking to him sort of via facebook. He's coming to next year's senior prom. It'd be nice to maybe to take him. What should I do to get his attention? He's smart, Arab, and a geek. Plus he plays soccer. I'm pretty and have an athletic bod bc I ski and workout. Asian, if that matters, and dress well. So, what should I do? I'd to just chat with him....but I don't even know him that well. Mucho thanks for all the help:)

Doing 30 minutes cardio with Nordic Track ski walker and Weight Training in between.? Greetings fitness buffs. I am on a steady road to loosing a hundred pounds. For the last two months I've being doing 30 minutes of cardio workouts on my Nordic Track ski excerciser (which involves both lower and upper body) daily at least 5 days a week. I recently joined a gym. One day I work out upper body, the next I do lower. I find myself too sore to do the Nordic Track for at least 2 days after weight training. I start to cramp up. So I do 45 minuites of brisk walking instead. My goal is to gain a 'moderate ammount' of muscle mass to tone and loose weight. Will weight training only twice a week along with cardio on off days still provide any benefit? I want to do something I will stick with. I see myself burning out if I work out the same muscle groups 3 days a week with weight training. Any thoughts?
Is this a good idea for a 14 years old that is trying to make her boobs bigger? IS THIS TRUE OR FAKE?: Everything everybody says about genetics and diet is true, BUT I did increase a cup size at age 26, and there are things you can do to change your body's disposition, from my experience... My theory (take it if you will): Fast twitch and slow twitch muscles play a huge role in where your fat is stored (go research these muscles for 5-10 minutes if you don't know what they are. Then go look up pictures of out-of-shape former athletes). I used to ski race in high school and had to walk up steep hills everyday to get home, and developed a rather firm, pronounced butt. My boobs were a different, less interesting story. They were cute, ish. So around age 23-24 I started lifting weights, HEAVY weights, mostly on my upper body to even everything out. Felt lopsided. Mixed this in with fast walking to burn fat (I ski, so there's no high impact running in the mix... gotta save the knees). I also did ballet to "sculpt" the legs, not to give them more crazy fast twitch muscle power. Anyway, lost major pounds, was as firm as I could be, and grew biceps and everything. The boobs were still "petite" however. Then I went to grad school and gained ten pounds... ALL BOOB. Yes, 10 pounds (from 110 to 120) turned me from a B32 to a C34. Sounds ridiculous, and I couldn't believe it myself. I tried on every bra in the store just to be sure. Everyone was asking if they were fake. Now I'm 115, 28 years old, and a C32. Havent been keeping up with the workout in a while, cuz I'm scared I'm gonna turn into Britney Spears or Janet Jackson (the former fast twitch champions turned fat all around). I figure next year I'll do another pump-up weight lifting marathon, just in case I go back to my almost-pear-shape physique. To sum up: Diet and lose fat like a maniac, but make those boobs and butt lift major iron. Honestly, pump them up real good to get them fast twitches working. It should only take 20-30 minutes of weight lifting time per session,3 times a week, for about 6-9 months. Make sure you're below your ideal weight when all is said and done. Then lose the diet. Let the exercise whittle away. Then watch your boobs and butt get lovely with new, fresh bouncy fat.
harder to lose weight? help please!? i am in good shape, i am in cross country running, nordic skiing and softball, i workout 45+ min 5days a week with strength training that i do switch around. i eat right but i want to lose a few pounds and somewhat fast. the thing is, is it harder for me to lose weight if i am already in good shape? i do cardio 45+ min. 5days a week not including strength training. I do plyos 3days a week and ski practice
Eating straight after a morning workout? Usually, i wake up around 8am. Eat a piece of fruit (Orange, Banana, Grapes or Pineapple slices) I then do 30 minutes on my Cross Country Ski Machine, which usually burns around 230 calories per 30 minute session. After I've had my shower etc... I eat a bowl of cereal; usually within 30 minutes after my workout. The cereal I eat is normally Special K, or Weetabix Mini's. Is this okay? or is it better for me to eat a bowl of cereal before doing my workout?
i have this friend who complains all the time? ok so my friend lets call her annie complains at least 22/7. she complains about how tired she is, about how she lost her favorite earrings, about how fat she is (she weighs 110 lbs., max), about how im taller than she is, about how mean her mom is, about how late she stayed up, about how mean so and so is being to her, and on and on and on. Its like, do you realize how dumb that sounds?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!? so now she is doing ski racing at my school and she has dryland practice. she also did skiing last year. she complains about how far she had to run and how many situps she had to do and she will literally tell everyone she meets how grueling the workout was. she did skiing last year too. i feel like telling her "if its so grueling and difficult, why are you doing it again?" i was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem and if you found a good way to resolve it without major hurtage. ps. it kinda sounded like i was complaining this whole time didn't it? pps. thanks god guys! dont answer or anything!
Keeping in shape during winter? anyone have anything fun i can do during winter? i don't really like downhill skiing, and i do have a gym. i just want to mix up workouts a little during the cold season, and eat healthy but wintery foods
what type of workout should i do?? ok so basically i exercise everyday but mostly cardio i also want to build muscle not to much just i wanna have a fast metabolism and long, lean, toned muscles but lose all the body fat (i am also on a healthy, good, diet) i dont really have access to a gym the fitness equipment i have is two 3lb dumbells, one of those fitness balls (the big blow-up ones), a leg press machine and a ski machine (kinda like an elliptical but you arms and legs move independently which = a more efficient workout) does anyone know of any good workouts or any websites that have them Thanks ahead of time
Good workout routine for 17 year old male? I do one full workout routine five days a week with my two break days being Sunday and Wednesday. I flex for 10 seconds, do 20 push ups, an 8 minute arm workout, 30 ski sits(thighs), 30 squats(thighs), 30 lunges, 25 triceps dips, 100 squats, 10 push ups at the end and then flex again for another 10 seconds. Should I do more or is that a good routine for someone my age? I try to eat as healthy as I can like when we have fruit in the house I'll eat that, but with a fat ass mother, can't really do much about that. And I drink plenty of water, about 8-10 glasses a day. Thanks. Forgot to mention that I'm 120 pounds, so I don't think I need to do cardio. :/
