How can I improve my ski fitness? I already work out, but I don't spend much time on exercises that would condition me for skiing, and I am feeling the pain today in my legs and lower back. What could I do to get into better ski shape?
recently developed BO issues - is this to do with lack of fitness? Also when is the best time to ski Whistler? Bo issues - whats the vibe, never had a problem befroe but suddenly go serious. Ski Whistler for the first time, when is peak season?
Ski Fitness & Calf Muscles? I have been ski-ing now 4 times, the first couple of times I felt fine and only had the odd aches & pains that you would expect. However on my recent ski holidays I have had trouble with my calf muscles after the first day of ski-ing & have been unable to walk properly let alone ski. I don't think it's the ski-ing that's to blame I think it's the drag lifts as the most recent places I've been have had more drag lifts than chairlifts. I'm off to Meribel in March 08 and would like to get myself ready so that my calf muscles don't cause me a problem, can anyone recommend any exercises or books I can get or has anyone had the same problem?
'Skiing'...advice please on my fitness to ski? I'm going skiing end of January (last minute decision) for one week. I went skiing 9 years ago and did really well in one week, but I didn't build up my leg strength at all before and I suffered badly with my knees for three weeks. I want to be more ready this time and wanted to know a) have I left it too late to exercise? b) could you recommend the type of excersise and how much/often c) would I be better having a go at snowboarding? any other tips or advice you may have to make things easier I would be glad to receive. I'm 46 woman 8st 8lb 5'5" and the only exercise I get now is walking my dog twice a day. I'm in UK and going to Bulgaria
Need to repair old, out of warranty Nordic Track ski machine? I purchased a top-of-the line Nordic Track Medalist Special Edition ski machine in 1994. Nordic Track went bankrupt in '98 and sold out to a company called Icon Health and Fitness. They sell a ski machine, but only one model, and the parts are not compatible with my machine. The problem with my machine is that one of the skis rubs against the sides of the wood. To repair it would be very expensive. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to have this fixed, i.e. a local outfit that repairs old ski machines?
What are some fun fitness classes I can take? I'm 14yrs old and a bit heavier than I would like so I was wondering if there were any fun fitness classes I could take. I've done competitive swimming, I ski so it can't be on the weekends, I play soccer & rugby. 10 points for most helpful.
How do I start a career in fitness? I am making a career change, from law to fitness. Fitness has been a lifelong passion of mine. As a kid, I skied (and taught skiing), danced (and taught dance), and ran. As an adult, I go to the gym 5 times a week; I do cardio, lift weights, go to classes, swim. I worked at a Y for a while, directing a youth fitness program (unfortunately the Y doesn't pay well enough). I have some Y certifications, and a BA that is totally unrelated to fitness (in economics), so I'm basically starting out from scratch. I don't know exactly what kind of career in fitness I might like to pursue... what are the options? I am looking for any and all starter tips. Classes, certifications, books, DVDs, websites/forums... anything to get my new career path started. Also, feel free to email me if you have lots of advice or if you think you can help/mentor. Thanks!
What is the best piece of cardio equiptment for all around fitness? Exercise bike, treadmill, elliptical, ski machine etc. If you had the choice of only one, what would it be? Any particular brand or series?
Is a high fitness level vital for skiing? I'm going on a school trip to switzerland in february and have been asked to start fitness sessions? i don't think they'll benefit me though? its just stretches and things like sit ups and squats. Is it worth it? I only want to go if its necessary? Any help from experienced skiers would be great :)
Benefits/Bad points of skiing in relation to fitness? I am 6 foot 1, 190 pounds (14 stone) and can run quite fast I am a rugby player and also play some American football Now my question is that for rugby/american football speed and weight is good...(i'm a winger) how will skiing affect that? I mean i'm 14 stone and not that fat, so will skiing lower my weight, or build it up? And how does skiing affect your sprinting speed? If it does lower speed and weight how could I keep them up, or even use skiing to make my weight and speed go up? (they both need to go up - if i am quick and not very heavy that's ok, if i lose speed and gain weight that is bad, but ideally if they both went up that'd b best...) Also how does skiing affect the other things? Cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, reaction time and things like that?
where do i buy a surf ski? ive been to bcf and sports stores and cant find one. just want an ordinary one for fitness, where do i get one? in australia a cheap one for fitness. not a $1000 racing one.
Doing 30 minutes cardio with Nordic Track ski walker and Weight Training in between.? Greetings fitness buffs. I am on a steady road to loosing a hundred pounds. For the last two months I've being doing 30 minutes of cardio workouts on my Nordic Track ski excerciser (which involves both lower and upper body) daily at least 5 days a week. I recently joined a gym. One day I work out upper body, the next I do lower. I find myself too sore to do the Nordic Track for at least 2 days after weight training. I start to cramp up. So I do 45 minuites of brisk walking instead. My goal is to gain a 'moderate ammount' of muscle mass to tone and loose weight. Will weight training only twice a week along with cardio on off days still provide any benefit? I want to do something I will stick with. I see myself burning out if I work out the same muscle groups 3 days a week with weight training. Any thoughts?
What would you think if I did this on youtube? Make an account were nobody knows who I am and wear a ski mask in all my videos about fitness, working out and for fun fights. What would you think?

I think that I need to get into shape before hand but not sure what is the best approach. Do any of you experience skiers think that this will get me ready for some skiing? http://www.motleyhealth.com/articles/2008/10/skiing-training-workouts-to-improve-you-ski-fitness.html

How to get in shape in two months for a ski-alpine race (walking up in extreme pace/altitude, skiing down) Txs The race is in mid January. I am reasonably fit need but I need an upgrade. Problem is I can’t run/jog and I would need an everyday workout plan to maintain my fitness and improve it to a higher level. I know I won’t be in topnotch shape but I’d need to “survive” it. I used to run/bike, but I injured my Achilles 4 months ago and I haven’t done anything ever since. I do need to lose some weight; I'm 6' 0' and 165 pound, and I’d like to go back to my race 155. I used to do 50 km on my x-country skis or ran a half marathon under 1:25. Any thoughts? Thanks a bunch
nintendo wii can you hook up 2 or more fitness? boards to one console to exercise and ski together
Do you think it is important to have your children play all kinds of sports? I don't have children but I plan to have some sooner than later. I grew up playing every sport that I can think of right now, except for sports that involve skiing. I want my children to do the same. I think it is important for kids to play different sports not just for fitness, but for experience and character. What doyou all think, is it important or not? And of course I'd want my children to be well-rounded and I think Parents should support their children's positive interests.
How should I start a new workout? I am 18, 5'10 145lbs. I've never excersized regularly on a plan, but I am generally active, biking, skiing, tennis, running around, hiking, etc. I'd like to gain some muscle and tone, and with a fitness easily accessible to me now, it seems like a good time to start. Ideally, I would like to work out on Tuesday and Thursday. What kind of excersizes would you suggest doing? Where should I start? I'm not trying to get huge, just in better shape overall.

Fitness questions, need some help? I have do have a strong core, as my fitness gram says. The curl-ups in the fitness gram, for me have generally been pretty easy the last 2 yrs.But I don't have a six pack. I'm 5'1 and 91.8 lbs. I think I'm fat but my mom says I'm not. But I eat healthy alot. I already do lacrosse weekly and skiing weekly in the winter. I'm really trying, and I already do weight lifting, resistance climbers, stationary bikes, running and lacrosse, I'll usually do them 45 minutes to an hour abour 2-3 times a week because I'm busy with homework and activities. So what types of exercises can I do to be the most physically fit?
How do i get into a fitness routine? I just got back off a skiing holiday and all the outdoors and exercise seems to make me feel great as i'm typically very idle and unfit. Now i'm back, i'd like to get into a fitness routine but i don't know where to start! I'd like to go to the gym but i wouldn't know what to do and for how long... i wouldn't even know what to wear! I could go for a walk or a bike ride but unless i'm going somewhere in particular i find it hard to get motivated... Maybe they do fitness classes but i'd be the one at the back gasping for breath after the warmup :P How do people do fitness?
I want to get fit before I go skiing. What would you recommend? I am going skiing in 2 months (July- I am in the Southern Hemisphere). I'm specifically interested in how fit I 'need' to be, and how to reach this level of fitness- e.g. what kinds of exercises I should do, how often... I have a gym membership, and going to the gym is something I like to do- but I don't know what I should be doing with my gym time. I don't want to hurt myself on the slopes!

What is a good gym workout? I joined a 24 hour fitness about 2 months ago. I try to go to the gym every day for an hour and I've been doing the exact same workouts since I've joined. So my question is what is a good, fun gym workout? And how long and how often should I do each machine? I have full access to everything there. Treadmills, ski machines, ellipticals, weight machines, free weights and the swimming pool. Also, there is a sauna and a steam room. What role does this play in a gym? Thanks.
Does cardio restrict your ability to get fit?? I keep hearing that doing only cardio will make you lose muscle mass...that doing something like 45 min to an hour a day is detrimental to your fitness. Now is that saying you will can't use only cardio to lose fat and lean your muscles out? Then what about many athletes that run marathons, swim, ski, etc that don't use weight training in their workout program? Are they actually hurting themselves by not using weights in their conditioning?
Best way to get in shape in one month? I am going skiing in a month. What are the best exercise/fitness plans for that short period of time? Best answer gets ten points!

Fitness Thoughts xxx true or funny xxx? My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 now & we don't know where the hell she is! The only reason I would take up jogging is so I could hear heavy breathing again. I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to show up? I have to exercise in the morning before my brain figures out what I'm doing. I don't exercise at all. If God meant us to touch our toes, he would have put them further up our body. I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me. I have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them. The advantage of exercising every day is that you die healthier. If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country. I don't jog... it makes the ice jump right out of my glass.

How to Lose Weight Healthily? I am trying to lose weight, get in shape, and tone up. I am 5'3'', 130 lbs, and I am an alpine skier. Since ski season ended, and even during, I am a little out of shape. I want help creating a fitness and diet plan. If anybody can help with that it would be great. thanks
inexpensive activities in a big city? I am a single woman in her late thirties living in a large east coast city. My rent is ridiculously expensive, leaving me with very little funds for activities and a social life. I am in a relationship, but do not think it's going to last, and I feel like I stay in it because of lack of other things to do (before I hear any harsh words, he has told me he is not sure where the relationship is going, either.. so it's mutual) I would love to join a gym/health club, but rates range anywhere from $60-$100 per month. I used to ride horses, which I love, but there are only places outside of the city to ride, which is hard for me to get to without a car!! I see my friends as often as possible, but that usually involves dinner out, drinks, movie, shopping, etc.. and although I adore my friends, I need an activity that doesn't cost that much money. I like health, fitness, skiing, horseback riding, reading, theatre, animals, etc., etc., etc.. but would be open to ideas. Only serious replies, please I said serious replies, please..
How do I loose muscle without ending up with big muscle-less legs? I used to have the P-E-R-F-E-C-T skinny legs. I started getting involved in sports- basketball, soccer, fitness, skiing, tennis etc. and at the beggining I saw I got some muscle on the outer side of my leg... ok I said to myself- Within around 8 months, right now, My legs turned bigger b/c of my muscles- no, i'm not like those scary "cheetah" girls who do the 100 m dash in sports events and win- I'm nowhere near that scary- but I got wider in my thighs. Now i even have a muscle that look like a bump on both my inner thighs. Now I'm scared that even if I stop doing sports, my muscles aren't going to go back skinny, but infact the same size just muscle free, and BIG! What should I do??? I meant scary because they have giant menly big muscles- on tv- champion girl athletes
Poor muscle tone? I am 25 y.o. male, healthy, occasionally exersice, 5'10'', but weight 125 lb. I don't feel any discomfort, I just wonder why I have no muscle mass. I go to fitness club occasionally, ski, run, do swimming. I have well-developed muscles on legs, but my arms, shoulders and chest only have sinew muscles, and seem to have no or very little development. My wrists are basically just bones covered with skin, they are very thin. I did a research online, but all I could find was abnormal conditions such as dystrophia, which is not what I have. I don't think this is a disease, it's just a certain condition that for some reason keeps me very skinny. I know, there are probably some people reading it and thinking "I wish I'd be you", but still...
Easy way to get into running? I have recently signed up for a career in the RAF, and part of this is a pre joining fitness test which requires me to be able to run 1.5miles (2.5km) in around 14mins on a treadmill in a gym. I have never been a big runner and have only recently really got back into the gym, using the ski machine, bike and a little of the treadmill. i also take part in a couple of the classes there too. I have quite weak ankles and knees due to always wearing high heels, ooops!! and find that using the treadmill quite hard going due to the impact. Does anyone know which would be the best exercise to strengthen knees and ankles and to get myself in shape for this run? I have set myself about 6-8 weeks to get my time from around 20mins (said above i can't run) down to the 14mins. Do u think this is achievable without putting myself in an early grave??
How can I get rid of back acne? Hi, I'm currently in grade 7 and during January my school will be taking the grade 7's a trip to a ski resort. There would be activities such as swimming, skiing, fitness, etc. But I'm concern about swimming because I have some acne on my back. How can I get rid of them? Well, should I wear swim suits that cover your body? I'm no concern about my body cause I'm 5'4 103 pounds. But I want to get rid of my back acne and how?
Start playing tennis in my 40s? I do skiing, and cycling, so I have decent aerobic fitness. I can swing a racquet because I used to play racquetball, paddle ball and a bit of tennis. But I really can't do topspin, so I am wondering if its realistic to become a decent tennis player in my late 40s, or will I always be playing catchup with better players?
Is Yoga an exercise for lazy people? Cardiovascular fitness is excecise. You know, like cross country skiing, rowing, running, cycling, etc. Stretching, or Yoga is just something one does before excercise. Do you agree?

How good is walking up stairs as a form of exercise? Hi. I'm very very idle... i mean very... in my day to day life but you wouldn't think it to look at me as i have a good diet. I am going skiing as usual this year but i want to spend more time on the slopes this year so want to improve my fitness. I went jogging today but after a minute i was near death and suffered badly (i know, how pathetic). So i thought tomorrow i'd try climbing the stairs a few times instead. I live eleven floors up and know i can climb to the top and know that it challenges me as by the time i get there i am hardly able to breathe. I was wondering if this would be an effective way to increase my fitness before i go skiing if i keep on doing as many as i can in a set before i collapse a few times per day? Is the whole idea of fitness being able to do more steps before i pass out, so that is what i should measure it by? Does anyone have any idea how many steps equals to a set amount of another fitness? For example - 100 steps = x minutes of jogging at x speed or whatever... Thanks
Which exercise is better for weight-loss? I have a stationery exercise bike that has different levels of Resistance ranging from easy to quite difficult, but the handlebar section of the bike doesn't move - that is, my legs move but my upper body basically doesn't. I can manage about 15 minutes or so of average-speed, average Resistance cycling at a time, and in order to get the 30 minutes/day exercise that is my goal, I would need to get on the bike at least twice/day. I absolutely hate doing it. I'm a 52 year old woman with a low attention span for boring repetitive exercise, even if I cycle while watching TV. On the other hand, I recently bought a Wii, and while I don't have the money and/or interest in getting the Wii Fit, I play the Wii Sports games (especially tennis and bowling), and Wii Ski that I also bought, by putting my whole body into it, moving both arms, legs, etc. as if i were playing in 'real life' (NOT just moving my wrists). I try to move from one stage to another (for example, between bowling frames or between tennis 'games') without any rests or breaks in between, and as a result I work up a really good sweat. I can do this for at least 20 to 45 minutes at a time, and on many days, I'll to it several times a day. I love doing this, as opposed to the bicycle which is a real chore. My question for fitness experts is: Is the exercise I get by doing the Wii as good as the bicycle? Do I really *have* to force myself to do the bike if I regularly use the Wii as described above? Thanks, and sorry for being so 'wordy' ;-)
what type of workout should i do?? ok so basically i exercise everyday but mostly cardio i also want to build muscle not to much just i wanna have a fast metabolism and long, lean, toned muscles but lose all the body fat (i am also on a healthy, good, diet) i dont really have access to a gym the fitness equipment i have is two 3lb dumbells, one of those fitness balls (the big blow-up ones), a leg press machine and a ski machine (kinda like an elliptical but you arms and legs move independently which = a more efficient workout) does anyone know of any good workouts or any websites that have them Thanks ahead of time
ALTERNATIVE CARDIO MACHINE @ THE GYM? I am getting bored with the treadmill and recently injured my right foot, which is now healing. Are there any other machines I can use for cardio? There is a particular cardio machine that has you holding two handles, one in the right hand and one in the left hand, attached to two ski like equipments(not sure if I am describing it well) that goes forward as you push each handle(I like it). Any other machines please. I work out @ Bally Total Fitness.

What should we do? My family is having a family reunion this summer. I saw my son have already reserve a room for him and one of his female friends. I'm pretty sure he'll bring one of those punk girls with him. We're sorta worry because last year he brought a girl with him. Next day when they went to jet ski, we saw him with few deep bites and scratches marks on his body. This winter when he was here to visit the family for holiday, he brought another girl with him. My father and mother say they can actually hear the girl talk about how good his blood taste due to his extreme fitness and how helpless she feel when he's in control. I'm worry something similar will happen. How do I tell him to not do something like that at family reunion? Also why do he like those type of girls? He always dress very neatly and look like a high fashion models and have class. However the girls he usually is with are all punky. I do like all girls he bring with him, they all seems very intelligent and sweet. But from history of his sexually behave, it's starting to really creep out some people. Also it's embarassing to everyone who know about it. We don't mind if he bring the girls with him but we don't want the girls to make him bleed. How do we approach him about that? He doesn't know anyone know yet.
Mock Trial Case- Is this suitable? I was wondering if my Mock Trial Case is suitable enough? Is there anything that needs to be changed in a way to improve it? Any suggestions? Andy Capp, 13, has been in a wheelchair for most of his life. At the age of six, he fell off a ski-lift, causing him to break his spine. Today was the first day of the annual Fitness Week at Andy’s school at Oxford Valley, and he was going to participate in the 50-yard dash. Just recently, he had participated in the regional Special Olympics, and ranked one of the top competitors in the nation for the 50-yard dash. When Andy’s gym class progressed outside to hold their first event, his gym teacher, Mr. Mistafit, told Andy he was not qualified. Andy could not participate, since it would be unfair to others. However Mr. Mistafit’s primary reason for rejecting Andy was that he wanted his scores to be objective to the national ranking. Andy is the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed on his behalf by his parents against their school district and gym teacher, Mr. Mistafit, the defendants.
Mock Trials Revision Suggestions? What could I do to improve my mock trial case? What could be added/revised/and or reworded to make it seem more suitable?
