Is there a HUGE difference between skiing a true twin and a regular downhill ski? Hii!!! I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the transition between a regular downhill ski to a true twin tip ski. I currently have the Volkl Vertigo skis and I am purchasing the Line Anthem skis. I am more of a downhill skier but I also do some jibbing. I was told they are more of a park ski but they are also a great all around ski. Thanks for your help :)
Do the downhill skiing classes really help? I have tried to learn how to downhill without an instructor, my husband explain what to do, but I didnt manage to learn it properly so I was thinking to take some classes. Do you really think that skiing classes help or should I just save the money and stay home?
what are the red poles/squares things used for at the olympics for downhill skiing? i watched the men ski downhill and on corners they hit the red things, some kind of square flag or whatever it is on some rubber poles all the way down. what are they for? Oh ok. So are the blue lines generated for the tv or are they actually painted on the snow, cuz they dont really align properly if they are painted on the snow?
What equipment do you need for downhill/alpine skiing? I have recently gotten into downhill/alpine skiing. I am wondering what equipment should you have to ski comfortably, and also, if you have any, tips for skiing and getting better at it. Any websites with any of this would be helpful as well. Thanks for your time!
what is the best place for downhill skiing and snowboarding in Finland? This new year we (about 6 people) are planning to visit Finland for skiing and snowboarding. Can you provide me with link to good resorts that are nearby hill? our start point is Saint-petersburg, russia, we gonna travel by car - so suggested places near to arctic circle seems to be nice - but too far from saint-petersburg :-( - probably other suggestions
Getting in shape for downhill skiing? I just booked a winter trip to Colorado to go downhill skiing. I'm in terrible shape, but I used to be a good skiier. Any ideas about what sorts of things I should do between now and then (I have about 3 months) to get ready for a week of skiing? Thanks.
Where is the best downhill skiing in Australia? I'm looking into going on a student exchange next year, but I want to go somewhere that I can ski. Australia is one of the options I was looking at, but what is skiing like in Australia? Are the mountains any good, or are they more like hills? Is there a large number of places to ski packed into one area? How long does ski season usually last? Also, if you know any of this information for New Zealand, that would be helpful too. Thanks!
What is a good pre-season downhill skiing workout? I love to go carving down the local hills and Lutsen Mountain in northern Minnesota, but every time I go out, I get sore. This winter, I am going to be going out west to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and I don't want to have to stop every ten turns to rest. Mainly I feel it right above my knees. What is an entertaining and inexpensive way to get in-shape?
How many people are seriously injured or killed downhill skiing in USA? Just wondering. I was recently injured on a terrain park. Hit air and landed on back of my head. Suffered a left frontal hemorrhagic contusion of my brain. I'll be OK, but if not for my helmet I would be dead. I cracked my helmet in half. I'm an advanced skiier who moguls, but never been on a terrain park. PLEASE BE CAREFUL EVERYONE!! I've officially given up the sport sad to say. I'm 51 years old and should have never been on the terrain park!
How to stop while skiing downhill?? I already know about the basic 'wedge' technique on my first time skiing.(spreading my skis at the back and narrowing them in the front) I want to learn the technique where you stop quickly by rapidly turning perpendicular/sideways?? (if that makes sense...) I have alot of trouble while going downhill because it's just so fast and i want to stop, but the wedge technique doesn't help! Help please!
What's the best coat to get for downhill skiing and snowshoeing? Maybe I'm crazy to think I can find one coat that can do it all. But I found this North Face jacket on sale at REI http://www.thenorthface.com/opencms/opencms/tnf/gear.jsp?site=NA&model=AN8X&language=en Am I right in thinking that it might handle both jobs, or do I need to get seperate coats for both activities? Thanks for your help!
Alternative for Downhill Skiing during Summer.? Hi. I'm a downhill (alpine) skier, and I love the sport. Without traveling Like Alternative Sport that's really similar to skiing
Downhill skiing game in Windows 95? Does anybody remember that skiing game in Windows 95? I don't remember the name, but it was something like "Downhill Skiing" or something. I remember the game as you were this little person skiing down a hill, and you used the left and right arrow keys to move around. The whole time you are racing down a hill (in a bird's eye view) trying not to crash into trees, and sometimes (I don't remember why, though) they would catch on fire. Also, at the end, this monster guy would almost come out of nowhere and eat you. Does anybody know what I'm talking about, or am I just stupid?!
Benefits of downhill skiing? I have to do a project on the benefits of sports. What are the physical and social benefit? How does it help develop leadership skills?
How long to Downhill ski boots last? I have 2 pr of downhill ski boots that have been in storage for 5yrs. Are they still good, or should I replace them before a ski trip this winter?
Can lite terrain back country skis be used for both downhill and cross country skiing? I found a pair of BC Skis that I really want to buy, but I was originally looking for downhill skis, and I'd like to buy something that will allow me to quit renting downhill skis. At the same time, I have several friends who are very into cross country skiing that I'd like to try to pick up, but don't want to invest in good XC skis yet. If I go with the BC, and want to use it for both, what kind of binding do you put on them?
I'm going to rent skis soon, for downhill skiing.... how should they fit? should they be tight? or loose? should they be tighter or looser around the foot part or ankle part or calf part? also, should I wear 1 or 2 pairs of knee-high wool socks? 2 pairs seems like it would be warmer, but people seem to say that 1 keeps your feet warmer.... oh, and i've been skiing 3 times already, and i'm slowly getting better, i just want the best ski trip ever!
What size should my downhill skis be? I'm a young male skier 5'8 160lbs moving to Colorado and want to pick up a new set of skis. I am from the midwest so I have only been able ski out west 1-2 times a year. I'd consider myself intermediate to advanced (able to go down the single blacks in Park City, but havent done the double blacks). I dont race, just do downhill and moguls. What size should my skis be? Ive been 'fit' at shops a few times and have heard a pretty big range.
